Background and Education
My background and education includes a BA in Comparative Literature at Indiana University, with a focus on gender studies and international film. I went on to earn a Master’s in Social Work, with honors and awards. In various settings and with diverse populations, ranging in age from two to 92, I have had over ten years of experience as a Licensed Psychotherapist, working with the issues surrounding addiction, disability, illness, aging, trauma and abuse.
While doing so, it became obvious that few, if any, human problems – especially those of Western culture, which is quite literally based upon separation from nature – did not somehow relate back to alienation from the anima mundi, or world soul. That’s when I earned a postgraduate certificate in Ecopsychology at Prescott College, and began developing and researching the concept of ecocultural trauma (more on this below).
In order to access the core patterns and root body issues that hugely contribute to emotional imbalance, my multidimensional approach includes a lot of work with herbs, foundational nutrition, hypnotherapy, dream and ancestral work. To that end, I studied with the Wellness Institute, eventually becoming a Clinical Hynotherapist. I took classes in ethnobotany, primitive skills, wild foods and medicinal herbs with mentors and at the Center for Integrative Botanical Studies, formalizing my exploration into depth nutrition and medicinal herbs with rock star Lisa Ganora at the Colorado School of Clinical Herbalism, where I earned a certificate in medical herbalism. I continue my lifelong plant studies with traditional healers and teachers like Plant Healer’s Jesse Wolf and Kiva Rose Hardin, Dara Saville, Charles Garcia, David Hoffman and Sean Donahue, along with many other forest-y luminaries.
